Samara Studios is officially closed. A small shop remains at Ivy Falls until the end of the year. It's been fun. Thanks for the kind notes of goodbye. I'll still be around although definitely not as much or as visibly.

More on the Closing

I posted a couple of days ago that Samara Studios (all parts) will be closing. Since then I have received a lot of nice "sorry you are leaving - I love your clothes" message which I truly appreciate as well as quite a few people wanting to buy my goods as full perm products. So it seemed wise to clarify what is happening to Samara Studios.

SAMARA STUDIOS IS MOVING!!! :D

I am still busily creating although mostly in the prim areas on the Openlife grid where I have a sim named FANTASTIC (really).

I am not interesting in selling any of my goods as full perms objects. Actually I am against that in practice as well as spirit believing that those that make the goods should be the sole benefactors of sales (smile).

So, that sets that straight. There will be a few things on the OnRez site still unless my OnRez box refuses to make the move to my new 512 abode. There will be no other store. I am not planning on a new store in a few months or anything like that. Things change of course, but all my apples are currently in a basket in Openlife where I am having a glorious time with great new building tools and more to come.

For those of you thinking "oh a new grid!" -- Openlife is NOT READY from prime time. If you are a builder you might love it there if your sense of adventure is great enough. But beware, do your homework and ask questions.

I will still be at Phil's. I am paid up until the end of September at least so I have no plans to kill myself off. But for the near future, I have left the building.

Samara Studios will be closing for good (people have been asking that also) around Christmas. Since there are issues ("issues") with the estate holder I don't know the exact day. It may be longer, but I can't guarantee that.

Until it goes up in a poof of "Return to Owner" magic, all FASHION will be on sale for 50% off.

That's pretty much the whole story and will hopefully answer any questions you may have.

CLOSING SALE

Two years or so ago I moved Samara Studios to Gembong. Now I'm closing. I am not going to site "real life" as that has no influence at all (smile). I am simply no longer having fun. Money is good, fun is better. 1,800 missing STORE items from my inventory that will never return helped make my decision and so did some land issues. All in all, just not fun.

So, I'll be closing soon. I can't tell you the EXACT date as my tier posts are not really on REAL time (in any sense of the word) but I suspect around and about 10 days which is close to Christmas for those of you that celebrate.

So -- Merry Christmas to you all. And if you want any Samara Studios fashions they are half price (sometimes a bit less) for clothes, shoes, shapes, skins and the popular photo studio. When I close I will be moving on in many senses of the word. A few things will still be at OnRez if my box survives the transfer to my new 512 (ocean view - yeah) lot.

The Home and Garden store will be closing too as well as Ivy Falls (no sale there so go to the main store). I am not marking down the home store items. Just too many and too much work.

New Courtyard Shops Available

It's a long story but after LL lost 10% of my inventory including all my holiday products (grr - sigh - whine), I decided to do something unplanned with my courtyard. It was immense, going to waste really and since I most likely won't need it for a holidays shop ......

I made a cute little shopping area. It's been a fun day. There are now six small, 50 prims shops in the HEART of Samara Studios -- celebrating its 2nd anniversary in the same spot. That's almost unheard of in our flexible world.

These shops rent monthly and directly to me as I hate those floating rental boxes and floating text. If you are in need of a tasteful shop, drop by and click on a rental info sign.

Renters are of course welcome to join in any Samara Studios hunts, celebrations and the like.

The shops are in the central courtyard between Fashion and Home stores.

Grid Wide Ghost Hunt

Just a note to say that this will be the Samara Studios offering for the Ghost hunt starting this weekend. 111 or so stops along the tour. I am close to the end if you go in systematic and correct order. This armlet comes with rubies, emeralds and diamonds and in two sizes.

New Fall Items - Presents

I don't know about you, but I am getting a little tired of orange by now and I LOVE rusty colors (wink). So how about a nice super hot pink spiderweb top? It's new on the $10 wall in the Classics section at Samara Studios. Pants not included.

And the new dollarbie is a fun umbrella with leaf emitter. Great for photo shoots. It's low prim so you could even leave it outside your door at the ready.

Also, if you are so inclined, drop by Ivy Falls , click on the Trick or Treat bag by the door even it is a bit early and vote for the Halloween decorations (you can vote for multiple people). I have some free shoes (both guys and gals) hidden in some pumpkins along the walkways and the dollarbie is out there also. There is also a rumor of water sprites leading the way to costume treasure and haunted spirits -- one of them holding a key to some bootie. They apparently are only here at night.

Store Modeling Opportunity

Many of you, my customers, have asked in the past about store modeling and photo shoots. Well I have decided to try an experiment with store modeling. Please feel free to come pick up an application at the store. I will be limited the trial to eight ladies, but may include more over time. Just click on the sign near the modeling stands in the collections area which is here.

To qualify you must:

be able to communicate well in English.
be available sometime between 8 AM and 10 PM SL time (hours may be extended later).
have at least one premium quality skin. Group gift skins are fine as long as they are not TOO specialty.
be at least six months old.
be able to adjust prims such as skirts so that they FIT you as needed.
have hair and shoes to go with outfits (you can also model in exchange for shoes).
join the Samara Studios Fashion group for group announcements as needed.

October Specials & Dollarbie

Just out -- three new outfits in Halloween colors sans skeletons and the like so you can wear them AFTER the holiday too.

Outfit one on the left is the dollarbie for October. It includes a satin top, orange flirt skirt and shiny silver belt. Find it in all the shops or just tp to the main Samara Studios store and it is in the usual place.

Right next to the dollarbie, find the other two outfits on the same wall. The rusty orange pants outfit includes charcoal lowriders (for boot) with built in textured belt and a finely knit sweater with optional prim cuffs and neck. $25

Rez Day Gift Adventure

I wanted to give you a heads up on the event happening this WEEKEND (don't come yet). You can find a board with a notecard at any of my shops including the main Samara Studios store.

The fun starts Saturday evening for the European folks and runs though Monday morning - so Sunday is The Day. That's only fitting as it is my 2nd Rez Day.

I made five special gifts (dollarbies) for my shoppers, all based on design favorites. There is a Fall print top with texture belt and matching skirt, thigh high socks with textured prim tops, some silver and garnet domed earrings, and SHOES based on the I'm So Sexy boot.

Originally there were only four stores but I lost count along the way and made five items. That worked out perfectly though since I opened a shop in Ivy Falls. Here's how it works. You can start at ANY of my shops. For the most fun, you buy the item in the BRIGHT pink box (not hidden - this is not a hunt) and you get a folder with the item(s) and a landmark to the next store. Go there, get the goods and a new landmark. If you don't want all of the items just skip them and TP to another shop.

New Digs: Ivy Falls

I've joined the Ivy Falls sim -- currently home to the great Exile Hair Hunt! I REALLY like it here. It feels like Fall and that's my favorite season. Time to get back into sweaters and boots and maybe even a hat.

There are two Samara Studios stores here -- one for cool weather outfits such as sweaters and jackets and such, and one for shoes for men and women. My best sellers for the cooler season are here as well as some Halloween goodies and a few things from the home store. It was so great to have extra prims to decorate with. Yeah!

The leaves are falling as I walk around the sim and the train has people riding in it this morning. Oh, and the hair? I found two not far from my shop, so come on over and take a look around. There is lots to see and do.

New Digs: Serendipity Isle

Just announcing that I have a new store at the redesigned shopping sim, Serendipity Isle. It's right down the street from the ballroom and across the street from Dark Mouse :) I see that Love Chic has a little cart across the way. It will be fun to see who else moves in here. I like the look of the place, the rent is very reasonable and the landlady seems nice. So we'll see how it goes.

The store features my best sellers as well as current dollarbies. The main store is still in Gembong -- celebrating two years there in December!

State of the Union and all that jazz

It's an odd night tonight. I somehow feel compelled to write a bit here with no real logical reason. It might be the stars and I suspect that if I looked at the charts (RL pro astrologer here) I would have some answers. Instead I decided to ponder in print-- partly for my own records, but more for the newer designers that might be wondering what in the Phil's Place firmament is going on.

My second rez day is on the horizon, so while I am not a member of the old guard, I am definitely not in the newbie camp either. For those of you that don't know, I have had a shop from the beginning. Furniture to start, then shoes and garden and stained glass and eventually clothes. So I am fairly diversified in Phil's domain just as I am in RL. The US economy took a major hit today with stock market plunges, major financial institution bail outs and the like and I was wondering how all this might affect our virtual land.

We, USA folks, are no longer the giant majority of residents in our virtual land -- not like we were when I joined. We are diverse and global and all that is fantastic. We are a melting pot of ideas and cultures. Still, the real world is global these days, interdependent more than ever before -- especially economically.

So, especially for the NEW designers who have just set up shops, worked hard and given their hopes and dreams, laughter and tears to the SL economic system and wondering if it will work -- here is what I want to say. This is just ONE case and not necessarily the norm. I doubt many people want to tell the world their financial business -- virtual or RL, so I figured maybe someone should say SOMETHING (smile).

I have been here two years and have had a shop almost that long. I have ALWAYS made a profit. I expanded from my profits and I have no RL money invested. I am still making a fair amount of profit. Most likely a lot less than our superstars and a lot more than many shops. Currently I am diversifying a bit into different locales. I have no guarantee that my half sim will ALWAYS be available to me. Estate owners come and go and I have been lucky so far; "owning" in estate land is always an iffy proposition. As times get tougher in RL and at Phil's we will most likely see more abandonment and "foreclosures". Virtuality mirrors RL in many cases.

My profits now are about half of what they were six months ago. So those of you that have read this far now have "some" benchmark which I am guessing is somewhere in the middle ground (just a guess though -- I have heard 60% down from some retailers). What does that mean for the new kids on the block? It's a bit like starting a business in the midst of a recession or depression and I have done that in RL. It is tough. It is also doable if you are wise, and careful; if you pay attention and know your market. Having a good product is pretty much a given or at least I hope it is.

My personal plan is to stick around. I am still enjoying SL and I am still making money with not all that much effort. I put in 12 hours days for a year so I can rest on SOME laurels now (wink). If I find that I am in the hole for a couple of months, I will either downsize or leave. This is just me, this isn't meant as advice.

And I guess it is time to get off the computer and back to my DVD. Virtuality is after all, simply that.

Brown is the New Black Collection

I've put up the first of the outfits in the Brown is the New Black collection at Samara Studios. There are more to come and many are completed. The skirts will come in both latte and coffee colors as well as both styles of pants. Other tops are in the works plus socks sold separately in colors other than brown. (They are so cute!).

The sweaters above are tuck in to the waistline and feature optional prim turtleneck and cuffs prims. The bolero shrug is in the jacket layer and can be worn over the other tops (and those to come). Pants for boots are included with the pants outfit.

Other outfits, designed to intermix with each other include flirt skirt and maxi lengths. An off the shoulder print top gives a silky and dressier option. The long skirt set includes slacks in the same pattern.

These outfits are on sale at over 25% off through the weekend and will then go to their regular price.

Urban Shopper Sales and Freebies

New Free Use Pose Stands

Many of you know that there is a free use photo studio here in the Collections area of Samara Studios. Today I have added three pose stands with very nice poses from some of the top animators. Some were gifts, some purchased. There are 69 poses to choose from including a "male" pose stand.

There are also switchable backdrops for each one. These are the same design as the photo studio where you click to change the texture. I have adapted them and added additional textures including plain black for Photoshop uses and several neutral light backgrounds. The backdrops are for sale for $100 and are Mod - Copy so you can add your own textures if you like.

There is also a free pose version of the pose stand which now includes all the FREE poses in the gift box. So if you want to keep it simple and have a use for a pose stand this might be what you need. It is $10.

Footwear Expo 2008!

By the time this hits the feed, the Footwear Expo should be open. Yeah! I was one of the first (actually I think I WAS the first -- I was having so much fun) to finish their shop in this city of small shops amid skyscrapers. It's been fun watching the stores being filled. So many lovely things and so much talent. It's amazing.

So be sure and stop by. If you see a LOT of green dots on the map, low prim hair et al would be a good idea. If you are wondering how much impact YOUR avi has on the grid you can test it. See my post here.

What's YOUR Number?

Some of you may have seen the post in the official blog about the new Avatar Rendering Counter.It let's your know how hard the server is working to render (draw) your avatar. You can see the number floating above the heads on those near you as well as yourself. Handy.

So what does all this mean for the future? Presumably some clever script guys will make an "entry gate" that won't let people in with a number over -- say 500 (very good but 1 is best - wink). This got me wondering about my wardrobe which is naturally fairly simple except for my everyday OMGthatissogorgeouswheredidyougetit--CalicoCreations hair. I did a little test for curiosity sake and thought you might want to see what happened.

These are different versions of a VERY PLAIN outfit.

The one on the far right is my normal attire. THE BIG RED NUMBER is BAD. BAD BAD NUMBER - LOL. It includes 25 prims per shoe, facelight and HAIR.
The picture in the middle is the same but with simpler (ETD Sideswipe in this case) hair.
The picture with the lowest number is the same but without hair. Something I would almost NEVER do.
And, If I take off ALL attachments and just have on a top and pants (no prims), my magic number is ONE! How great is that?

The big offenders are obvious to many of us. Blinging jewelry (which seems to be out of fashion of late anyway - at least in the places I visit) and hair. Animation overrides don't figure in this number as they are not "rendered". They still cause lag of course. I was amazed how much my C G Facelight added to the mix (48 points) -- especially since windlight doesn't love us so much without it. HMMM.

Still, you can see by the center picture that you can look fairly well dressed in crowded places with a very low and happily green number. For me it was all about the hair.

So, I went through my personal hair inventory and picked out a few of the styles that are low numbers on the rendering scale. These are by NO MEANS the only low number styles, just ones I had in my inventory. And not too surprisingly many of the best ones for server strain are FREE. the more transparent and flexi prims and the more complex the design, the higher the number.

Taurus and Fashion

Astrology is not fortunetelling, it is an analysis of planetary energies and their relations to our real (and virtual) worlds. If you don't believe in astrology, simply skip this or read it for fun. If you do, feel free to use it as a contemplative starting point or a reflecting pool of sorts. And before you ask -- I have been certified in astrology in RL by one of the top schools. And yes, you really can do that :D

It is difficult to say how much the planets influence us in our virtual world, but each avatar has a human behind it who IS nudged by movements of the stars. Let's take a brief look back at Aries (Mar 20 - Apr 19) since it is the start of the zodiac year.

**While each individual (and possibly each avatar if there is more than one) has MANY other energies impacting their own personal charts, these universal energies give us a backdrop of sorts where our individual dramas unfold. **

ARIES

Aries is a cardinal sign of new beginnings. It welcomes Spring, new growth, new directions, new outlooks. It is ruled by the planet Mars -- fierce spurts of energy, anger, warfare, action. The energies of Aries contain the attitude of fighting the good fight -- righting wrongs, the mother bear protecting her young at all costs.

ARIES & FASHION

In the fashion world of Phil's Place we saw new innovations in design, seasoned designers starting completely new product lines, old timers in new settings -- rising from the ashes of shops that were no more. We also saw designers finding new ways to reward their groups and customers. There was a fair amount of conflict on the blogs and this warring energy may have also shown up in situations where groups of designers worked together. People were thinking in new ways and this may have brought about disagreements at times.

As with all the signs, there is a mixture of energies. One of my favorite quotes from the blogs pretty much sums up one side: "IDK - I wish the economy would perk up, but until then guerrilla marketing shall commence." At its best, however, Aries gave designers a push to break out of their old mindsets and start again with renewed energy.

TAURUS

As we move into Taurus (Apr 19 - May 20) much of the enthusiasm and angst dissipate. We are in earth territory now, the fires are dieing down for better or worse and it is a time to regroup. Taurus energy encompasses stability, strength, solidarity, stubbornness, and a need for security.

TAURUS & FASHION

Designers could find themselves circling back to favorite designs, ones that have stood the test of time and have a comfortable feel. These could be reworked, improved upon or simply used as a model for a slightly different version. It could easily be a down time compared to the last few weeks. If the need to slip under the covers for just another twenty minutes rather than work on that new outfit prevails -- it is simply Taurus at work. The stick-to-it nature of Taurus will get the job done in the end. It is a natural progression of energy and not a fault of any work ethic.

Fashionistas could find themselves going through their inventory trying to find that favorite old pair of jeans, dressing in what seems most comfortable (and comforting) be it a bikini or a ball gown. Low heeled sandals may be the popular choice for the first time since Fall. Or, tennies might be the first chosen style. For many, this will be a month to stay with the tried and true, both in clothes and designers.

No I haven't got two different shoes on (wink). This is simply the vendor picture from the new Explorer Sandals for Women. The mens version has been so popular with women (assuming from their names) buying the mens version, that I decided to make some for the ladies.

Many of the details are similar. They are two toned and with a low heel. The base is wooden with a leather insole. The come in the three colors you see above: smoke, charcoal and chestnut. There is a real life version to see up close and personal on the platform at the store entrance.

Elements - Off the Shoulder Tops

New off the shoulder Spring and Summer tops are just out at Samara Studios. The pack comes with both sleeved and sleeveless styles. The sleeved version comes in jacket and shirt layers while the cami only version comes in shirt and undershirt layers. So there are lots of wearability choices. A discount fat pack of all five colors is available.

These tops fit TO the pant line so appear tucked in if you are wearing full version slacks of any kind. AND for Samara Studios Fashion group members there is a free top to try. Wear your tag and click on the box near this vendor to get yours.

The tops come in five colors: Fire, Ice, Ocean, Sunrise and Sunset. I bet you can figure which is which, but if not -- the vendors are clearly marked.

New Petite and Pregnancy Shapes

Two new petite shapes have been added to the shapes department at Classic Casuals. Meet Joni and Dianna -- 5 foot 2 and 5 foot 5 (well maybe not quite petite by RL standards but in 2ndL this is short (wink) -- respectively.

Planning on have a virtual little one sometime soon? The first of the PREGNANCY shapes are now up. One is Michele at 5 foot 2. She is joined by Connie who is a lofty 5 foot 8. The pregnancy shapes included four shapes which grow (in many areas - wink) as your pregnancy continues. All shapes are mod- copy of course. The standard pregnancy shapes include a bit of general weight gain, a spreading bottom region and a small amount of added roundness in the face. Tummy and breast enlargement is of course mandatory. Find them in the shapes department near the central courtyard.

The Corporatizing of "Phil's Place"

I am not a big wave maker -- in RL or 2ndL (wink) but as I went to drink my first lovely cup of City Coffee of the day I found that something was nagging at me and just wouldn't let go. The blogs were full of news this morning that Armidi had added to their team ( http://armidi.com/workroom/?p=57). According their post Sofia Gray, Public Relations Manager, states that these new avatars will work "within the style boundaries set by Armidi".

When I came to our joint virtual world a year and a half ago it was MUCH smaller and to be fair, it wasn't nearly as pretty as it is now. We had a few big name designers and even fewer small shops. What we did have was INDIVIDUALITY. The whole point of "Phil's Place" was to go forth and create (or enjoy the products of those that did if you weren't a creative sort). Now that the world is growing and people are coming to it with dollar signs in their eyes -- are we going to lose all that?

And no, I am not upset that I wasn't asked to join up. I just make everyday clothes at everyday prices. That's the tag line and within that I try to get creative now and then. If my seams match and the clothes look good on most avatars, I'm a happy camper. There is no way I want to be in the "fashion world" and I can say with certainty that I would still be in my own shop had an offer appeared in my mailbox. Others have and I have said no. I just want to do my own thing.

But what about all the other wonderfully creative designers out there that are having trouble making their tier or getting their names out there. Will they follow suit and become a mesh of cookie cutter conglomerates? I SO hope not.

As Ivey says (I'm paraphrasing here so I hope I get it close to correct) - Buy what you like, not what you think you should because someone tells you it is the style.

Addendum: Apparently this was all an April Fool's joke. Since it seems like a lot of people did NOT get it (smile) it is probably a GOOD thing it was out there? Joke or no. Something to think about.

I am not upset that the "joke was on me". I however do not think it is very funny. For many people -- and especially those that have been watching "from a distance" this is not far from the direction things have been going. Especially all the new (cough) three month old designers and new (cough - wink) shops that are springing up. I wonder how funny this may seem in a year --- or not. A very happy April 1st to your all. I'm going back to work when I can log in again. Cheers.

So -- I was over at the Bewitched Hair Hunt today having a great time with the gals (all 100 of them and some guys too -- at least it seemed that way). We were moving through the muck slowly and falling into the ground as we can on the weekends at "Phil's Place". And we were hunting and yelling out finds and having a great time -- until we couldn't BUY!!!!! So much lag with so many people. And the "old-timers" (I have to assume it was them /us but didn't check) were trying to get some of the folks with hundreds of prims and scripts and such to get a bit more naked to no avail. I eventually left without getting all my finds and will return this eve.

MEANTIME the point of this story is that EVEN though another hunter and I had on only TWO textures (pants and a top for me), we could have had on EVEN LESS if our clothes were in with our skins! What an idea! I imagine someone else has already done this, but I haven't ever seen it mentioned. So, you can get my Lag Free outfit (a version of some Samara Studios classics) in Classic Casuals in the "specials" area in the middle.

Please remember that in a laggy environment, AOs (you need to DETACH them, not just turn off) and HAIR as well as obviously things like multi-prim jewelry and the like are killers. So if you really don't want to go bald, you can make up some hair in the appearance editor. I had forgotten all that and had a time getting my "bald base" to become hair. It was fun though and a walk down memory lane.

And if you want to wear the jeans as jeans and the skin as skin -- hey that's fine. I added some of my new hair from Bewitched and it makes a pretty snazzy outfit.

I am part Irish in RL and actually probably Irish in SL from my looks - LOL. Still, I get a bit overwhelmed with the GREEN of it all -- especially the give aways. So, I decided to make something that was in keeping with the holiday that people could ALSO wear the rest of the year.

On a side note, I have changed ALL the clothes to No Transfer. People were losing too many things due to database errors. Since Copy items seem to disappear MUCH less often (I have actually never lost a copy item, but several no copy things disappeared and NEVER returned) this seems like a good plan. I can (and will up to 30 days) also replace any items that never arrived due to "SL issues".

Most items are available for gift giving through OnRez. So I think this will work out well for everyone.

Hybrid III Upgrade

Just a purely personal post to say I have just upgraded from a Hybrid II to III skin-- just out at Nevermore Studios -- Sovereign Crux (150, 62, 622). Same skin tone, same basic makeup but much nicer with more definition and better lips. I was very happy with my old Hybrid II but this is more sophisticated I think and keeps within my same look. I gained a year or two but it has been that so only fair.

I am a happy camper here doing my little happy dance as I go off to read in the real world -- are we sure WHICH is exactly the REAL world? :)

Pretty in Pink

This is my look of the afternoon -- and no the overalls are NOT mine. Sometimes we just want to PLAY and today was that kind of day for me. So when a fashcon notice came out with these overalls from Lisa Marie's at Barks/21/117/24 - I went to see. And they are SO VERY CUTE. I am not a girlie girl, but these are perfect. No frills and just enough feminine details (they DO come in colors besides pink) to remind yourself that these are NOT your grandfather's overalls.

And SO I went out to play in the fields. I have been really getting into photography of late (hence photo studio - remodel of shoe store with "art" et al) and I remembered seeing giant pink flowered fields. Well here I am in the Wizard of Oz esce countryside. Only in one direction unfortunately which meant I had to shoot into the sun. But challenges are good and I had a great time.

Overalls by lisaper Petrov. A blouse from the Tawny collection, a Tied Up shirt in white gauze and Elana Sandals in rose from my shop make a fantastic combo I think. Earrings (free) by Untone (they are the pink version). Ah the coordination (wink).

Shoe Store Remodel

With some great poses from Long Awkward Pose -- Carolina Beach 21/164/22 -- , a modicum of patience and a LOT of changing outfits, the shoe store at Samara Studios has a face lift. It might look more like an art gallery than a shoe store, but I was getting OH so tired of all those shoes in circles. The shoes are still there. Even the circles are in evidence, but I hope the new layout and ambiance will be both pleasing and easier to shop. So take a look at the new Shoes Simply Shoes when you are in the neighborhood.

Harness Belts in 8 colors

Just arrived - Harness Belts in eight colors. These come in a three pack (small, medium and large) and are mod - copy. Wear them at your waist or hips. They attach to pelvis so work best with pants and system skirts. See a prim version on the display stand at the entry to the shoe store. These are available in BOTH the shoe store and Classic Casuals. Belts are 75 Linden a three pack. Large fits many guys and there are instructions for resizing if you need to fine tune. DEMOS for size are available at the store. Fat pack for either classic colors or Spring colors are available also.

Also new are more colors of the popular Primavera sandals - smoke, latte and charcoal. So there are belts and matching sandals in eight colors. I was pretty sure you could do the math on that, but still :)

Photo Studio Free Use

I spent the major part of the day making a photo studio that people can use for free. There is a large variety of backdrops (both RL and SL street scenes and such as well as plain). You simply click on the backdrop to change the photo. The floor works the same way. There are all black versions of both the backdrop and floor as well as a nondescript gray; these can be used for photos you will take into a graphics program. The solid black floor works as a riser of sorts to make it look as though you are REALLY in the backdrop.

The lights -- all eleven of them -- work independently so you can get the effect you are looking for. There are instructions in a vendor on the wall.

The rules are simple. No nudity; no violence; play nicely :)

There also a new, private and quite lovely changing room adjacent to the photo platform. Anyone can use that also. There are pose stands and good lighting as well as a place for a friend to sit, chat and advise on your wardrobe choices (wink).

Samara Studios Photo Contest

I really love the photo contests that are going on now and I woke up this morning thinking that the cavernous clothing collections shop (it used to be the Home Store for goodness sakes) could use some filling up. I'll get there eventually with clothes collections, but some of those bare walls are getting to me. And So ---

I am looking for fun, romantic, beautiful, dangerous -- you name it -- shots of people in my outfits. Primarily these would be the multi-pieced collections as I will be moving all the collections to that area (Gembong West 224/70/28) in the future. So if you are one of the multitude with the "flirty lace top", I hope you love it-- but I don't need a picture of it - LOL.

I know there is a lot of work involved so I want to make this worth your while. Presumably you love taking photos anyway ( I definitely do) so this should be FUN and not a JOB!

Prizes for any of the pictures chosen (I need a few so this isn't a one only thing) are:

Your choice of any of the collections (value up to $595)
1000 Linden gift voucher (transferable) that can be used in for ANY Samara Studios goods (shoes, sailboat, home, garden etc. -- this does NOT include the vendor shops on the far side of my complex - sorry).

There really is no deadline per se as I would like to make this an ongoing event, but I would also like to make some additions to the store soon, so I will make my FIRST decisions on February 25. So send in some great pictures.

Spring Collection 2008

Spring is here! Well almost. At least the majority of Samara Studios Spring Collection is on the walls. The colors at SS this spring are Dusty Pink, Dusty Green, Dusty Violet, White and a bit of Dusty Blue just to balance it all. Most all of the pieces are mix and match -- even outside the collections. So you can take pants from one series and a top from another etc.

I have also made some optional "add to" items for the collections as well as fat packs (they are some of my biggest sellers so I assume you guys like the discount) of tops. There are sandals to match and there will be heels as well as some semi sheer undershirts in a variety of colors for those of you that insist on being covered (wink).

So, I am pooped. Here are some photos and I will update a bit more soon and add more.

Not everything is shown, you will just have to come by and see!

Spring's a Comin'

While it may not be Spring yet in your real life world -- and it certainly isn't in mine -- Spring is coming to Samara Studios in February. I don't have to be a mind reader to know people are READY! I only have to note that sandal sales are WAY up and that backless tops are outselling some very popular sweaters and such (big wink).

So, in case you were wondering what I've been DOING of late ... I have been working on the Spring collections. So far I have a lovely strapless white number with three skirt lengths and pastel ruffles (some pants are in there also and a bracelet) as well as the ever popular No Back Pocket Jeans in pastel colors along with matching tanks. There are three dresses of different pastel prints in the Primavera Collection. AND we have new matching sandals in dusty pastels and white. So if coordination is your desire, you are in luck this season at Samara Studios.

The new Spring items (those listed and others) go up on the walls at the beginning of February when the jackets and sweaters go into mothballs for the warmer months. So keep an eye out. There will be a new "from the wall" freebie for February also.

This brand new section of Samara Studios lies right down the courtyard from Classic Casuals.

The Wanderlust collection (pictured) reminds us of romantic times. It comes with a belted blouse, a tuck in blouse, a mid-length skirt, leggings and leather pants (both slacks and boot cut). Matching boots are available. The blouse can be worn with or without prim sleeves (two sizes are included for easy editing). The blouse can be purchased separately.

Velossity racing leather sets (see earlier post) come in three colors with knee slides and modify decals. These are available in both men and womens sizes (prim parts). Jackets are available separately.

Collections often include coordinating shoe options as well as some unisex items.

There are some fairly major changes on the way in 2008 for Samara Studios. It seemed only fair to let the folks that come by the blog be on the "inside" of it all (wink).

In thanks to all the people who have embraced my Classic Casual fashions I will be continuing with CLOTHES. This blog will showcase fashion news only (it was almost there anyway - LOL).

Along with the designing comes a need for SPACE. I am a true believer in BIG vendor pictures. How can anyone be expected to buy from the tiny and blurry photos after all. So-------- the Home store will be moving across the plaza by stained glass. What was the home store will become an extended area for fashions making the whole East side of Samara Studios a dedicated place of BEAUTY!!!! Yeah!

For those of you who mostly shop for home and garden items, rest assured they will continue to be added to and changed as always. I love to build in world and won't be abandoning that any times soon.

The fashions in the new store will be a step away from Casual Classics. Don't worry, the basics will be continue to be added to also. We ALL need "Everyday clothes at Everyday prices". I understand the need to feel at ease in SL outfits that mirror our RL wardrobes. It is a comfort zone many of us embrace. At the same time -- we have the ability in SL to step out of our boxes just a bit and that is what this next store is dedicated to.

The first collection is called Velossity (and yes, I DO know that isn't how Webster spells it)! I started working on this for a RL and SL friend who races and wanted some racing leathers that looked more like RL ones. Along they way I discovered that I, Samara, was having a GREAT time trying on these outfits (/me smiles broadly). And isn't SL supposed to be fun?

So come embrace your slightly more adventurous side in 2008. It's a new year and if we only live once -- let's make the most of it.

Anniversary Giveaway - The Results

Samara Studios celebrates one year in Gembong! Yeah!

Mark your calendar for December 15th when there will be an abundance of Good Free Stuff for the taking -- or finding as the case may be. ALL ITEMS ARE FROM THE FLOOR of Samara Studios general merchandise. No BIAB; No public domain; No "seconds".

Here's how it works:

In the home, garden and stained glass areas there will be numerous (5 - 10 each event hour) items right in their same spots where you can buy them for 0 Lindens. The items will change between -- and sometimes DURING -- event hours! Some items will be free all day, some for half an hour etc. All items will be No Transfer.
In the Fashion area, there will be a NEW outfit given away. Each piece will be available ONLY during the particular event time. If you come to all four events sessions you will have a first quality Samara Studios ensemble that goes on the wall for sale the next day.
In shoes there will be a pair to go with the outfit of course! Look for them on the wall and buy for 0. If you know the shoe store well (and some of your REALLY do) you will find it quickly.

Event hours run from 9-12, 12-3, 3-6 and 6-9 SL times.

Second Style - On the Cover!

Here I am on the COVER of Second Style! My favorite "flirty lace top" looks so good -- and that HAIR!!! (wink).

Well yes, I am on the cover -- but you can be too. Second Style Magazine now has a photo shoot set up at their new offices at Le Zoo. So if you ALWAYS wanted to be a cover girl -- now's your chance.

And if you just want some coffee table magazines for you home or office, this "issue" as well as another are available on the coffee table in the courtyard by the clothes.

Ah -- the fame! The glory! The flat stomach (wink).

Remodel Complete!!!!

WHEW! If you happened by in the last two days, you may have noticed some changes underway. Well except for some some new signs and a little tweaking here and there -- I'm done! Woot!

Samara Studios is almost a year old in Gembong (see an upcoming post about the celebration and MAJOR give away - hunt -- soon I promise!). So ALL that gray tile simply HAD to go. Along with a brighter and happier look -- I was aiming for ENCHANTING and thing I did pretty well. There is definitely a more open feel.

Bridges are gone (replaced by the courtyard you see in the photo). Roofs have been deleted with a giant DEL and you can now fly over and find things easily. The garden department now has some very friendly grass, and while you might have to walk a bit further, I suspect that you will be able to SEE things better.

All in all I am very happy with the new look. Thanks to the Hearts for the lovely BLUE TREES and Charlie for making a special sculpture for the courtyard! How cool can you get?
